Nursing
Nursing
is the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities,
prevention of illness and injury, alleviation of suffering through the
diagnosis and treatment of human response, and advocacy in the care of
individuals, families, communities, and populations.
A day in the life of a
nurse means to perform physical exams and health histories; provide health
promotion, counseling and education; administer medications, wound care, and
numerous other personalized interventions; interpret patient information and
make critical decisions about needed actions; coordinate care, in collaboration
with a wide array of healthcare professionals; direct and supervise care
delivered by other healthcare personnel like LPNs and nurse aides; conduct research
in support of improved practice and patient outcomes.
Nursing has undergone a paradigm shift upon
the introduction and popularization of nurse training on a professional level.
Demand for trained nurses have shot up considerably, with untrained nurses
being routed out of the system or being asked to obtain the qualifications to
standardize the nursing segment.
